I do not yet know how we can end human trafficking, illegal immigration, slavery or poverty, but I believe that my research will lead me to the answers. My initial and basic theory is that if we strengthen third world economies we can move more people out of poverty. People who have decent jobs that pay fair wages are less likely to want to emigrate to industrialized nations. People who have no need to leave their homes will not fall into the hands of slave traders. Parents who can support their children will not sell them into slavery.
I am currently reading a book that was recently published by the U.N.’s International Labor Organization called Forced Labor: Coercion and Exploitation in the Private Economy. I am interested in hearing from others who have thoughts on these issues. I believe that we could greatly improve our world and end much human suffering if we found solutions to these problems.
